blessings for coming out week

October 20, 2014

On Wednesday of this week, LEM will join with the Vineyard Campus Fellowship and the Protestant Student Community to celebrate a Service of Blessing with the LGBTQ Community and Allies. This will be a service of song and celebration for the many and wondrous ways human gender and sexuality are expressed. We will hold the service in the normal place (the Main Dining Room of W11), but it won’t start until 5:30. Of course, we will also celebrate our fellowship over dinner in the Community Room of W11.

While everyone is invited to participate in this service, it will not include a Eucharist. If LEM is the primary setting in which you receive the Eucharist, here is a list of four other services that will help you worship in that way. Two services are in the middle of the day and two are in the evening. From experience, you would be most welcome at any of these services.

  • Christ Church (Episcopal) in Harvard Square has a half-hour Eucharist at 12:10 PM.
  • SSJE (Episcopal monks) on the river near Harvard Square holds a Eucharist service at 12:30 PM.
  • St. Peter’s (Episcopal), just up Mass Ave past City Hall, holds a Contemplative Eucharist at 6:00 PM. Dinner follows and many people stay for a discussion at 7:30.
  • The Church of the Advent (Episcopal/Anglo-Catholic) in Beacon Hill has a healing service at 6:00 PM.

In other news, Isaac has invited us to participate in the Crossing’s All Hallows’ Eve Eve service. It will be on Thursday, October 30, at 6:00 PM. Everyone is invited to come dressed as their favorite saint, past, present or future. It will be fun and thought-provoking, based on the saints represented last year. And you’ll still have time to go trick or treating on Friday. Score!
